USC, Midlands Tech ink transfer agreement
A newly inked partnership between the University of South Carolina and Midlands Technical College will put students pursuing degrees in engineering and science on a fast track toward graduation.
Officials from the two institutions announced Dec. 7 an alignment program that lets students earn an associate’s degree from Midlands Tech and move directly into the final two years of their undergraduate studies at the state’s flagship university.
Transfer students account for a third for of USC’s student body, and officials believe the agreement, which is effective immediately, will have statewide impact. Students can choose from a dozen associate degree pathways in biology sciences, public health and exercise science, teaching and engineering and will be guaranteed acceptance at USC once admissions requirements are met.
More courses may be added in the future, school leaders said.
“This new direct transfer program removes a part of the higher education process that was a barrier for many of our students,” Midlands Tech President Ron Rhames said Dec. 7.
