Move over Greenville, there’s another Upstate city receiving national headlines. South Carolina’s capital city is also getting some love.
Southern Living Magazine has named Spartanburg and Columbia two of its “South’s Best Cities On The Rise 2024.” Not only did they make the list of 25, but they both appear in the top five.
Spartanburg ranks No. 3 on the list, while Columbia checks in at No. 5.
The publication touted Spartanburg’s appearance on U.S. News & World Report’s list of fastest-growing places from 2023-24, as well as its comprehensive plan “to aim for further success” and the $1 billion downtown development project featuring a minor league baseball stadium.
Columbia was singled out for its $2.37 billion in investment last year, while looking ahead to plans beyond 2024, including the “major renovation of the Blossom Street Bridge to make it pedestrian friendly” and the ongoing redevelopment of West Columbia.
