From world-class fishing on Lake Marion to world-class companies, Clarendon County is a catch for young families, new professionals, and seasoned executives alike. Made up of four tight-knit towns and a beautiful countryside, Clarendon offers an unbeatable sense of community. Its central location – sandwiched between Columbia and Charleston, and along 1-95 – has allowed for family companies like Kent International and international names like Alucoil North America to grow and find success in the southern corner of the Central SC Region. Enjoy festivals, fishing tournaments, and farmers markets year-round thanks to the area’s temperate weather, or take a step back in time by visiting local museums and artifacts. Tranquility mixes with opportunity in this unique and outdoorsy haven.
From fishing to golfing, museum hopping to shopping, Clarendon County offers a relaxed pace of life with ample options for entertainment. Head to Lake Marion or Santee Wildlife Refuge for a day of fishing, swimming, bird-watching, boating or floating, or to watch some of the major fishing tournaments, like the Striped Bass Festival. For a day on the green, head to The Players Course at Wyboo, Shannon Greens Golf Club, or Wyboo Golf Club. Palmetto Trails offers miles of hiking and walking trails, and J.C. Britton Park is the perfect place for basketball, volleyball, or a family picnic. Catch a show at the Weldon Auditorium or take a step back in time by visiting the Manning post office, the Wagon Travel Mural, or by joining the American Revolution Walking Tour.
Clarendon County is home to three public school districts – Districts 1, 2, and 3 – as well as several private schools, such as Laurence Manning Academy and Clarendon Hall. Recognitions such as Palmetto Gold and Silver Awards and the highest ACT & SAT scores in the region are awarded to Clarendon County students. The districts offer Early College Honors Programs to students, with one-on-one learning environments and college credit coursework. Clarendon County is also home to a satellite branch of the Central Carolina Technical College, where students pursuing secondary education can hone in on their craft and prepare for the workforce.
