Activities for Everyone

Whether you’re an avid fisher or a history enthusiast, Calhoun County offers unique experiences. Congaree National Park is one of the most biodiverse parks in the nation and is the largest intact expanse of old growth, bottomland hardwood forest in the southeast. Waters from the park support the growth of the state Palmetto tree throughout South Carolina. Birdwatching, fishing, hiking, canoeing, and camping are all popular activities for days spent at the lake. The Calhoun County Museum and Culture Center is the cultural hub of the county and puts on a variety of events each year. Calhoun County Schools

The Calhoun County Public School District operates two K-8 schools and one local high school for the community, as well as two local private schools. For secondary education, the Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical School offers two-year associates programs in industries ranging from criminal justice to engineering. And just outside of the county boundary, programs at Midlands Technical College and University of South Carolina are available for those willing to commute.
