Columbia’s first riverfront brewery opening at CanalSide Plaza later this year
Many people in the area know of Bierkeller Columbia through the pop-up events they host around the city. The beer company is now brewing up its permanent location, which will be the first riverfront brewery in Columbia.
Bierkeller Columbia first started contract-brewing at Swamp Cabbage Brewing Company in 2016. The new permanent location will soon be known as Bierkeller Brewing Company.
Scott Burgess is the owner of Bierkeller Brewing Company and found inspiration through his trip to Germany with the University of South Carolina’s exchange program.
“I was meant to be working toward a P.h.D. in comparative literature and ended up caring a lot more about the beer culture around the city than I did about literature and critical thinking,” said Burgess.
The new brewery is set to open towards the end of the year at CanalSide Plaza at Sola Station, which overlooks the Historic Columbia Canal and Esplanade.
