In 2010, Matt Vaadi relocated to Columbia from Raleigh with an idea. An idea that had opportunity and room to become reality in the Central SC Region. Matt saw a void in the existing ecosystem and sought to fill it with an innovative “high-tech, high-touch” HR offering.
Matt was drawn by the high level of commitment from local businesses to work together and move the economy forward. With his own plan to build a company that aligned with his goals of community building and giving back, the Central SC Region was the perfect fit. Central SC was not only perfect for Matt in terms of opportunity, but the low cost of living, access to nature, and quaint downtown were all ideal for raising a family. The unique blend of history and charm creates an atmosphere that cultivates talent and an exceptional quality of life, according to Matt. When seeking talent to relocate, Matt looks for established professionals desiring variety and nature rather than the hustle and bustle of a fast-paced city.
A weekend for Matt typically consists of stand-up paddle boarding, kayaking, supporting the local farmers market, and checking off state parks on his mission to visit all 47 in South Carolina with his family. He’s on number 19 and has no intention of stopping. Nature has been a big draw for both him and those considering a move to Columbia. After all, it’s rare to have two major rivers coursing through downtown, providing Columbia with recreational activities for the whole family to enjoy.
When he’s not at the office or a state park, Matt also volunteers at a variety of organizations, including GrowCo, where he serves on the board, as well as Transitions Homeless Center and his local church. Additionally, he coaches youth sports baseball, basketball, and football.
When choosing to move to Central SC, Matt prioritized quality of life, quality of opportunity, quality of people, and community – which Central SC is not short of. Matt has been pleasantly surprised by the local commitment to attracting transplants, which has led to a wider access to talent and a growing pool of people dedicated to advancing the community for the better.
